In this African folktale, a monkey and a shark form an unlikely friendship. One day, the shark invites the monkey to his home to repay him for his kindness, but on the way, he reveals that the Sultan of his home is sick and needs a monkey's heart to heal him. The monkey, realizing that he's in danger, tells the shark that monkeys leave their hearts in trees when they go out and offers to retrieve it. When they return to the tree, the monkey climbs up and pretends to look for his heart while the shark waits below. The monkey uses a story about a washerman's donkey to trick the shark into thinking that he has no heart, and the shark is left empty-handed.
