Kim Cheom-ji, a rickshaw man, experiences a stroke of good luck when he makes an unusual amount of money. However, his joy is short-lived as he realizes his sick wife needs him to stay home. As he is contemplating this, a student approaches him and asks for a ride to Namdaemun Station. Kim Cheom-ji is torn between his obligation to his wife and the opportunity to make more money. In the end, he decides to take the fare and regrets it when he sees his wife's eyes filled with resentment. The story explores the complex decisions that arise when people have to choose between their own needs and the needs of those they care for.
