A miller boasts to the king and the people of his kingdom that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king locks the girl in a tower full of straw and demands that she spin straw into gold. Just as she gives up her freedom, an imp-like man appears in her room and spins straw in exchange for her necklace. The king keeps his promise to marry the miller's daughter, but when their first child is born, the imp returns to collect his payment.
