In this charming story, a king is obsessed with protecting the rare golden oranges in his garden, but a goldfinch keeps outsmarting his guards and stealing the precious fruit. When the king offers a reward for capturing the bird, a persistent peasant offers to catch it in exchange for the king's daughter's hand in marriage. Although the king is initially angry, he eventually agrees to the deal, only to discover that the merchant guarding the oranges has the key to their secret location. With the help of the goldfinch, the peasant retrieves the oranges and earns the right to marry the princess, leaving the king to ponder the nature of his own greed.
