In a remote Indian village during the enchanting Shravan month, a train arrives at the station, bringing with it a visitor named Babu Mohanlal. Dressed in fine attire, he is on an inspection trip to Kusumpur, his own family's area, which is currently embroiled in turmoil caused by his father, Kundanlal. Mohanlal's journey takes an unexpected turn when he encounters a simple, impoverished family in the village, who unwittingly tell him the heartbreaking story of their lost inheritance and the tragedy it brought. As he listens to their tale of hardship, Mohanlal grapples with a deep sense of sadness and shame, for Kundanlal, the moneylender responsible for the family's suffering, is none other than his own father.
