Geppetto, an Italian carpenter, accidentally makes a puppet from a piece of firewood; the puppet laughs, cries, and talks like a child. The puppet, Pinochio, plays tricks on Geppetto and many adventures ensue: he meets a Fire Eater, the puppet master, and a Cat and Fox who attack and hang him. The Blue Fairy saves him, but curses Pinochio that his nose may grow longer with each lie… He then leaves with his friend Lumignon for the Land of Toys, and they are both transformed into donkeys. He is then thrown into the sea and swallowed by a huge whale, in whose belly he finds Geppetto. Pinochio finally starts to work and study, and he wakes up one day transformed into a real little boy in the flesh.
