"The Goblin" tells the story of a king who cursed whoever plucked an apple from a tree that he loved so much. One day, his three daughters discovered the tree full of red apples and the youngest of the three sisters was tempted to pick one. She convinced her sisters to taste it, and the three of them were cursed and disappeared. The king offered one of his daughters' hands in marriage to whoever brought them back. Three hunters set out and found a castle where warm food was always laid out but no one was seen or heard. Two of the hunters set out to search for the king's daughters while the eldest stayed in the castle. Each day, a little man came and asked for bread. The first two hunters were unkind to the little man while the youngest treated him with kindness. The little man revealed himself as a goblin and told the youngest hunter where the king's daughters were being held.
